Adult Religious Education

SFUC Adult Religious Education is concerned with lifelong learning and enrichment, and with building relationships within our religious community. With workshops, film discussion groups, and book clubs, we share our personal stories, explore religious and theological questions, and clarify or challenge our moral and ethical persuasions. Most importantly we discover kindred spirits with which to travel, sharing the weight of the torch as we "carry the flame of peace and love".

Stories of Change

Let’s tell our stories! The “Stories of Change Group” is a place for participants to share stories about thoughts or events that have made them see things differently or that have changed their spiritual path. The group meets 7:00 – 9:00pm on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at Mona’s house. All are welcome to come and share or just to listen. Light refreshments will be served. Dates and times can be found here. Call Mona at (604) 535-8704 for location and details.

Daytime Book Club

The Daytime Book Club meets every second Monday. This spring, we will be reading and discussing A Tale of Boxes: The Role of Myth in Creating and Changing Our Stories by Robert Latham.

"Every one of us lives in a box. This box determines what we see and what we do not see. It tells us who to love and hate. What to fight for. How to live. Who we are. Our boxes -- the collection of stories we tell about ourselves and the world -- create the human drama. Whether you become a pawn in this drama or take control of your destiny depends on the ability to answer two questions: Why is my box the way it is? How can I transform it? By examining the forces that have shaped your most deeply held beliefs, this book challenges you to think outside the box that society has provided for you ... ... and begin writing your own story."

The location of the Daytime Book Club rotates between participants' houses. For information on the location of the next Daytime Book Club, contct Mitsu at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
